A beautifully made late George Iii Mahogany writing cabinet of small proportions. The cabinet is veneered with well chosen and matching Plum Pudding, fiddle-back and flame Mahogany veneers, which have a beautiful natural faded patina. The Escritoire front to the cabinet opens to reveal 3 fitted drawers and an arrangement of Pigeonholes with a green leather writing surface. Below this are a single drawer and an enclosed cupboard with adjustable shelf for books etc, standing on turned feet with brass castors. This piece is in exceptional original condition and is of a rare configuration. Also of interest is that it can also be free standing due to the finished back panels.
Circa 1790.
